During a charity event recently, The Children’s Inn raised $750,000. The event, “An Evening for Hope,” was a much anticipated evening for Drew, who was given the opportunity to paint a star painting to symbolize the theme of hope for the fundraiser. Drew’s star painting was auctioned for $8,000, which was donated directly to The Children’s Inn.
Drew’s $8,000 contribution will provide two months’ stay at the Children’s Inn for families whose children are undergoing medical treatment at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Drew, who is a father of five, was moved when he realized just how much his painting contributed.
The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health is a temporary home for sick children and their families. Children, and the families of children who are receiving medical treatments at the NIH are given the opportunity to stay at the Inn. The Children’s Inn is designed to provide a warm and nurturing environment that encourages healing and hope.
This week I had two pint-sized helpers in my studio. As you can see from their painting they have inherited my love of art.
As an artist, I often discuss what inspires me. As a father, I say there is no greater inspiration than the love of a family. I owe every bit of my success to my loving family, who continue to encourage and inspire me every day. Capturing moments like these serve as a daily reminder of how lucky I am.
